Inspiration In the Writing Room

Writing is an interesting thing, it doesn't always start with the prose for me. A character might appear to me and the story shoots up around them, or sometimes, it might all start with a poem.

For The Weeper Man, the character came first. For The Summoning, it was the game, but for The Assistant, it started with a poem. Curious as that is, I figured that seen as I am blogging my process, I should probably include the areas that make me a little less confident... especially as there appears to be some sort of chant or spell in many of my pieces. So, to stop myself rambling on for too long, here are some of the other works that intertwine with my series in progress.

The Assistant's Realm

In the centre of his maze,
He sits like a spider,
Web upon web,
A thick lace haze,
Centuries of bargains that grow and ebb.

In the centre of his maze,
He waits without end,
Rules upon rules,
All under his gaze.
Rules upon rules,
To balance the threads.

In the centre of his maze,
The Assistant stirs,
Something is coming,
There's a banging at the gate,
Something is coming,
It's at the door,
Something is coming
And it wants more.

At the centre of his maze,
The Assistant Plans,
Phase after phase,
All down the pan,
He must hold the line,
No matter the cost,
Or all hope be lost.

At the centre of his maze,
He stands alone,
In the middle of his web,
Like a creature of stone,
He keeps the gate closed,
But for how long? Who knows.

Call on the Weeper

If you’re feeling low,
With nowhere to go,
There’s a man you can call,
When the rain starts to fall.

He’ll take on your woe,
There’ll be none left to show,
From suffering you’ll be free,
But honesty is key.

For if you should lie,
Your happiness will die,
He’ll visit the pains
Of the thousands he’s gained,
It will haunt all your dreams,
And no-one will hear your screams.

So heed this warning,
Think before you call him,
For if you stand in the rain,
And call out his name,
With your candle in hand,
Make sure you have your story planned.
